About Durable Hardware

Timber & Hardware From One Trusted Source

One supplier. One conversation. Everything you need to complete the job!

Durable Hardware is the hardware supply arm of Durable Hardwoods International. We supply premium external-grade fixings, fasteners, brackets, and fittings that are specified to work with our hardwood timber range. Every product in our range is selected for outdoor exposure across all Australian climate zones — from suburban decks and rural fences to coastal boardwalks and marine jetties.

Matched to Your Timber — Compatible with Merbau, Blackbutt, Cypress Pine, and Treated Pine

Graded for Your Environment — 304 SS, 316 SS, HDG, and Zinc-Aluminium options across all categories

Meets Australian Standards— Products selected to meet or exceed AS 3566.1 and relevant standards

Specifying the Right Grade

Built for where you build

The Australian environment is demanding. Humidity, salt air, UV, and moisture all accelerate corrosion. Choosing the wrong grade of hardware is a costly mistake. Use this guide to specify correctly — every time.

Standard Outdoor.

Recommended Grade: 304 Stainless Steel. Hot Dipped Galvanised (HDG).

Suitable for:

•  Residential decking and pergolas

•  External cladding and screening

•  Garden and boundary fencing

•  Structural framing and sub-frames

Typical project: A Blackbutt backyard deck with HDG joist hangers and 304 SS decking screws.

Costal. Upgrade within 1km of Coast

Recommended Grade: 316 Marine Grade Stainless Steel

Suitable for:

  Coastal residential decking

•  Beachside fencing and screening

•  Elevated structures near the ocean

•  Pool surrounds and outdoor entertaining

Typical project: A Merbau coastal deck with 316 SS decking screws, post stirrups, and joist hangers throughout.

Grade note: 316 SS contains molybdenum — providing significantly greater salt-air corrosion resistance than 304 SS. Do not substitute.

Graded for Your Environment — 304 SS, 316 SS, HDG, and Zinc-Aluminium options across all categories

Marine & Over Water. 316 SS Mandatory

Recommended Grade: Grade 316 Stainless Steel — all fixings without exception

Suitable for:

•  Jetties and boat ramps

•  Coastal boardwalks and bridges

•  Public infrastructure over or near water

•  Tidal and splash zone structures

Typical project: A hardwood jetty with 316 SS hex bolts, threaded rod, marine joist hangers, and decking screws — complete marine-grade specification.

Grade note: Contact our team for project-specific marine hardware schedules. Structural engineer specification recommended.

Rural & Agricultural. High Exposure

Recommended Grade: Hot Dipped Galvanised (HDG). Zinc-Aluminium (Zn-Al) for wet or coastal rural

Suitable for:

•  Rural boundary and livestock fencing

•  Vineyard and trellis wire systems

•  Farm gates and post structures

•  High-moisture and tropical Queensland environments

Typical project: A Cypress Pine post-and-rail fence with HDG post stirrups, gate hardware, and high-tensile fencing wire. Zn-Al wire specified for coastal Queensland runs.

Grade note: Never substitute zinc electroplated fixings for HDG in rural or structural applications — premature corrosion and structural failure risk.

The Product Range

Nine Categories. Every Environment Covered.

From the screw that holds your deck board to the marine bolt that holds a jetty beam — our range covers every fixing need for external hardwood projects. All products are specified for outdoor exposure and compatible with Merbau, Blackbutt, Cypress Pine, and Treated Pine.

1. Screws

The primary fixing for any hardwood project. Screws across our range cover decking, cladding, screening, and structural sub-frames. Pre-drilling is recommended for all hardwood species to prevent splitting. Torx (TX) or Square drive preferred — both prevent cam-out in dense timber. Available in 304 SS for standard outdoor use and 316 SS for coastal and marine environments.

2. Nails

Structural nails for external hardwood framing, cladding, and connector plate applications. All nails in our range are hot-dipped galvanised or stainless steel — the only appropriate specification for outdoor use. Zinc electroplated nails corrode prematurely and must never be used in external hardwood applications. Within 1m of pools or near the coast, stainless steel is mandatory.

The Right Hardware. The Right Grade. Every Time.

Why Choose Durable Us?

Specifying the wrong hardware grade is one of the most common — and costly — mistakes in external timber construction. Premature corrosion, structural failure, and expensive rectification work all start with the wrong fixing in the wrong environment.

Durable Hardware takes the guesswork out. Our range is built specifically for external hardwood applications across all Australian climate zones. And because we are part of Durable Hardwoods International, we understand timber — which means we understand exactly what it takes to fix it properly and make it last.

Specified for External Hardwood

Every product in our range is selected specifically for use with external hardwood timber.

We do not stock generic hardware that may or may not perform outdoors.

If it is in our range, it is rated for outdoor exposure.

One Supplier for Timber AND Hardware

Durable Hardware is part of Durable Hardwoods International.

Order your timber and your hardware from the same team, in the same conversation.

Fewer suppliers. Fewer delays. Fewer specification errors.

Grade Advice You Can Rely On

Our team understands corrosion, climate, and Australian Standards.

We will help you specify the right grade for your environment, whether that is 304 SS for a suburban deck or full 316 SS for a coastal jetty.

Supply Across Four States

We supply NSW, Queensland, Victoria, and South Australia.

Our main warehouse is in Port Adelaide, SA, and we have a sales office in Sydney, NSW.

Contact our team for pricing, availability, and bulk supply across all states.

Backed by Australian Standards

All Durable Hardware products are selected to meet or exceed relevant Australian Standards including AS 3566.1-2002 for fastener corrosion requirements in timber applications.
